Shower Waterproofing Kit

Fully waterproof and leakproof
Quick and easy to use
Suitable for showers and wetrooms
Tile after 24 hours

The Dunlop Trade Shower Waterproofing Kit provides complete protection for shower areas and wet rooms, containing all the necessary components in one convenient package.

The two-coat liquid membrane system creates a seamless, flexible barrier that prevents water from penetrating substrates and the building structure. Applied with a brush or roller, the membrane can accommodate substrate movement and bridge hairline cracks of up to 2 mm. The kit covers approximately 3.5m², and can be used on walls and floors.

After priming, apply the first coat of membrane and embed the reinforcement tape in the corners and joints while it is still wet. Then apply the second coat once the first coat is dry. It is ready for tiling after 24 hours using flexible tile adhesive. This complete system approach ensures compliance with British Standards for tanking, providing installers with peace of mind and preventing costly water damage claims.

5kg kit contains: –
4.5kg waterproof coating
500ml Primer
10m x 100mm tape
1m x 1m matting

Leak-Free Showers With The Dunlop Shower Waterproofing Kit!

FAQs.

Q: Where can I use the Shower Waterproofing Kit?

The kit is suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • Shower walls and floors
  • Bathroom walls around baths and basins
  • Wet rooms
  • Power showers
  • Areas with underfloor heating or electric undertile heating

It can be applied to various substrates including concrete, cement:sand rendering, plaster, plasterboard, sand:cement screeds, and tile backer boards. The system is designed for internal use and is not recommended for swimming pools, tanks, or as a barrier against rising damp.

Q: How much area does one kit cover?

One 5kg Dunlop Shower Waterproofing Kit covers approximately 3.5m², which is sufficient for a standard shower enclosure. Multiple kits may be required for larger areas such as complete wet rooms. The coverage is based on applying one coat of Waterproofing Coating to the walls and using the mat on the floor area with two coats. For accurate planning, measure your shower area and add 10% to allow for overlap and waste.

Q: How do I apply the Dunlop Shower Waterproofing Kit?

Application follows these simple steps:

  • Prepare surfaces by ensuring they are clean, dry and free of dust or loose material.
  • Apply Primer to walls and floors with a brush and allow to touch dry (approximately 30 minutes).
  • Apply the first coat of Waterproofing Coating with a brush to all corners, wall to floor joints and around pipes.
  • Press Waterproofing Tape into the wet coating in these critical areas, ensuring that there are no voids underneath.
  • For the floor area, apply one coat of Waterproofing Coating and embed the matting, then immediately apply a second coat over the matting.
  • Apply a second coat of Waterproof Coating over the entire area.
  • Allow to dry for 24 hours before tiling with a suitable Dunlop tile adhesive such as CF-24 Flexible Tile Adhesive.

Q: Why is waterproofing necessary if tile adhesive and grout are already water-resistant?

Although tile adhesives and grouts provide some water resistance, they are not completely waterproof. Over time, even the smallest imperfections in the grout lines can allow water to penetrate to the underlying substrate. This can lead to serious problems, including

  • Structural damage to underlying boards and joists
  • Mould and mildew growth behind tiles
  • Moisture and water damage to adjacent rooms
  • Degradation of plasterboard and other water-sensitive materials
  • Costly repairs and potential health risks

The latest Building Regulations (BS 5385) recommend that wet areas should be protected with a suitable waterproofing membrane system. The Dunlop Shower Waterproofing Kit provides this essential protection, ensuring long term durability of your tiled areas and peace of mind for you and your customers.
