Flexible Acrylic Filler FAQs

Explore our Product FAQs to find quick answers to common questions about flexible acrylic fillers, including application guidelines and best practices for achieving optimal results.

Q: What is Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler?

Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler is a high performance, one part, gunnable acrylic filler that remains flexible after drying. Designed for both interior and exterior use, it’s ideal for filling gaps around skirting boards, coving, window and door frames, as well as repairing cracks and damage to walls and ceilings. Its highly flexible nature prevents cracking or de-bonding on drying and it’s compatible with most water-based and synthetic paints.

Q: What can Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler be used for?

Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler is perfect for

  • Filling gaps around door and window frames (timber or UPVC)
  • Sealing along skirting boards and coving
  • Filling gaps between walls and ceilings
  • Sealing around internal fittings
  • Repairing cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Any areas subject to movement where a flexible finish is required

Q: Can Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler be sanded?

No, like most flexible fillers, Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler cannot be sanded. For the best finish, smooth it while still wet using a damp finger or tool.

Q: Is Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler waterproof?

Although Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler is water resistant and can be used externally, it is not completely waterproof. For areas that are constantly exposed to water, a silicone sealant such as Dunlop FX-90 Silicone Sealant would be more appropriate.

Q: How does Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler compare to other decorators caulks?

Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler offers superior flexibility and anti-cracking properties compared to standard decorator caulks. It’s specifically designed to accommodate movement in the building, which means it won’t crack or split over time. Its unique formulation means it’s less likely to cause problems when painted over, a common problem with other caulks that can lead to unsightly cracks in the paint finish.

Q: How much coverage will I get from one cartridge?

A 310ml cartridge of Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler will cover approximately 8.5 metres with a 6mm x 6mm bead.

Q: Can I use Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler on moving joints in walls?

Yes, that’s exactly what it’s designed for. Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler is ideal for areas subject to movement and thermal expansion, like the junction between different building materials or around fixtures. Its flexibility allows it to move with the building without cracking.

Remember, for best results with any decorating project, proper preparation is key. Ensure surfaces are clean and stable before applying Dunlop Flexible Acrylic Filler for a professional finish that lasts.

Top Tip

“For deeper gaps over 6mm, apply in two coats, allowing the first coat to partially set before applying the second coat. This technique prevents shrinkage and ensures a professional finish every time. And don’t rush – allowing the paint to dry properly (especially in cooler conditions) will prevent those dreaded call-backs when the paint cracks over partially cured filler.”
