LX-40 Floor Leveller
LX-40 Floor Leveller is an economic, polymer-modified floor leveller designed for interior use in dry areas from 2-12mm depth. This cost-effective compound provides reliable performance for standard levelling applications over concrete, cement and sand screeds, anhydrite, terrazzo, and quarry tiles. It can be walked on in as little as 4 hours and is ready for tiling after 4 hours, making it ideal for projects requiring a rapid turnaround in dry environments.
APPLICATIONS
LX-40 Floor Leveller is suitable for:
- Interior floor levelling in dry areas only (2-12mm depth)
- Preparing floors for ceramic tiles, natural stone, carpet, LVT and sheet vinyl
- Economic levelling projects in domestic and light commercial applications
- Smoothing concrete and screed substrates
- Standard levelling where flexibility or underfloor heating compatibility is not required
Note: Not suitable for wet areas, power showers, swimming pools, exterior applications, underfloor heating or electric undertile heating. For these applications, consider LX-200 Flex Leveller, LX-360 Fibre Leveller or LX-500E Exterior Leveller.
SUITABLE SUBSTRATES
LX-40 can be applied to:
- Cement:sand screeds and concrete surfaces (prime with SBR Universal Bonding Agent diluted 1:4 or Multi-Purpose Primer diluted 1:1)
- Anhydrite/calcium sulphate screeds (prime with Multi-Purpose Primer in two coats: first coat 1:1, second coat neat applied at 90° to the first coat)
- Existing unglazed ceramic tiles, quarry tiles, terrazzo and porous natural stone (firmly bonded)
- Old ceramic tile adhesive residues (remove excess, no priming required)
Note: Priming requirements vary by substrate – refer to datasheet for specific priming instructions.
Coverage
A 20kg bag of LX-40 Floor Leveller covers approximately 4m² at 3mm thickness. The coverage rate is approximately 1.6kg per mm/m². For example, a 20kg bag covers approximately 2.1m² at 6mm depth, or 1.7m² at 8mm depth. Coverage depends on substrate flatness and application depth.

FAQs.
1: What types of projects is LX-40 best suited for?
LX-40 is ideal for standard levelling applications from 2-12mm where you need a reliable, cost-effective solution. It’s perfect for preparing concrete floors, cement:sand screeds, and sound tile adhesive residues prior to laying ceramic tiles or soft floor coverings. If you’re working on smaller residential projects with relatively flat floors that just need a smooth finish, LX-40 offers the right balance of performance and value.
2: How does LX-40 compare to other Dunlop levellers?
- LX-40: Standard leveller for straightforward applications up to 12mm deep
- LX-200: Mid-range flexible option for surfaces with slight movement (0-20mm)
- LX-360: Deep fill fibre-reinforced option for significant depths or movement (3-60mm)
All three share the same 25 N/mm² compressive strength, 4 hour tiling time and 24 hour resilient flooring readiness.
3: How much LX-40 will I need for my project?
- One 20kg bag covers approximately 4m² at 3mm thickness
- Coverage formula: 1.6kg per mm per m²
- Example: For 10m² area at 3mm depth = 5 bags (1.6 × 3 × 10 ÷ 20 = 2.4 bags, rounded up)
Remember to factor in an extra 10% for wastage and uneven surfaces.
4: How soon can I tile or apply floor coverings after using LX-40?
- Walkable: 4 hours
- Ready for ceramic tiles: 4 hours
- Ready for resilient flooring (vinyl, LVT, carpet): 24 hours
This quick-setting formula helps keep your project moving without unnecessary delays.
5: What preparation is needed before applying LX-40?
- Clean, dry, and dust-free surface
- For porous surfaces (concrete/screed): Prime with Dunlop Multi-Purpose Primer diluted 1:1 with water
- Mix ratio: 20kg bag with approximately 3.8 litres of water
- Allow mixed product to stand for 2 minutes, then remix before application
Proper preparation ensures maximum bond strength and a professional finish.
